The FREEDM Systems Center continues to develop partnerships with middle and high schools to increase awareness of the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and renewable energy systems.

The Sustainable Transportation Education Program (STEP) is a pre-college program with the FREEDM Systems Center, the College of Engineering and North Carolina State University. STEP is a program that educates middle and high school students on sustainable transportation and the shift towards electrification of transportation.
