RIAPS, an Open Source Platform for Distributed Controls

Controller hardware, operating systems, and communication systems to implement core microgrid functions vary significantly from one implementation to the next. In this presentation, FREEDM researchers introduce an open source solution called Resilient Information Architecture Platform for the Smart Grid (RIAPS) which is ideally suited for implementing and deploying distributed control algorithms.  With support from a number of run-time platform services in RIAPS, algorithms can be easily implemented and deployed into real microgrids. This presentation reviews unique features of RIAPS, demonstrates microgrid control algorithms capable of meeting all operating modes defined by the IEEE 2030.7 standard, and shows validation using a real time hardware in the loop testbed.
