NC State recently showed its continual commitment to sustainability by hosting their fifth annual Energy Week! From September 30th through October 6th, the campus hosted a plethora of activities and tours to educate the community about new ways we can show our appreciation and respect for our planet. Energy Week at NC State is especially focused on energy management, energy research, and energy policy. It includes power plant tours, electric vehicle test drives, a visit to our on campus nuclear facility, and presentations from students and faculty. FREEDM and the NCSU Energy Club hosted “Spark Talks:” 5 minute presentations from students on their energy related research. This year’s presentations include dispatch value for renewable energy, the impact of agrivoltaics in California’s Central Valley, and energy choice impacts on public health of water purification options in low wealth nations. The FREEDM Center was proud to see two of our own students competing with their own research as well!. Shweta Meena presented her research on microgrid control software design and Sneha Narasimhan showed results from her research on medium voltage motor drives. After some deliberation and voting amongst the audience, Shweta placed third and Sneha placed second. Congratulations to both! We look forward to seeing your work in the future!
